The Store website was born out of a clear desire: to offer an editorial space dedicated to promoting African art, culture, and all forms of expression that accompany them. Designed as a living showcase, it aims to be a source of inspiration, a tool for transmission, and a catalyst for visibility for the talents of today and tomorrow. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, as in many African countries, the art scene is incredibly rich, but still too often confined to the informal sector or marginalized due to a lack of structure, recognition, or support. Local creators struggle to find sustainable platforms to exhibit, sell, and share their work. The cultural ecosystem, although vibrant, remains under-exploited.
It is in this context that The Store was born. From its inception, the concept store sought to respond to a pressing need: to create a physical and symbolic place where people could discover, support, and purchase the creations of African artists and artisans in a professional, accessible, and inspiring setting. The adventure began in 2018, when a candle brand offered the founder exclusive representation in Kinshasa. This first partnership marked the starting point for a larger project: to found a space entirely dedicated to the continent's creators.
Since then, collaborations have multiplied. The Store has become a creative hub, a showcase. Its mission: to offer a platform for dissemination, to create synergies between worlds, between people, between disciplines.
The website naturally supports this dynamic. It amplifies voices. It sheds light on journeys. It documents, narrates, and transmits. We address an audience that is curious, passionate about culture and reading, and committed to the values of creativity, authenticity, and diversity. Through our articles, we aspire to introduce readers to unique worlds, to fuel reflection, to broaden perspectives, and above all, to strengthen the place of African creation in the global cultural debate. This blog embodies The Store's founding mission: to bring people together, to inspire, to transmit. Because we believe in the power of stories.
We believe in the strength of local initiatives. And we believe that culture, when carried with sincerity and ambition, can create connections and meaning.
